William Douglas "Doug" Williams, 73, of Waverly, Kansas, passed away Friday morning, August 6, 2021, at the Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas.
Doug was born August 3, 1948, in Emporia, KS, the son of Harold and Dorothy (Tuttle) Williams. He grew up in Waverly and graduated from Waverly High School in 1966. He then earned a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Emporia Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, KS.
On August 4, 1968, he and Donna A. Taylor were married at the United Methodist Church in Waverly. They would become the parents of a son (Darin) and a daughter (Denise).
After college Doug and Donna moved to Wichita where he began his career as a Certified Public Accountant. Later Doug began his career in finance in Marysville, Kansas. They lived there for 8 years and Doug transferred to the Topeka office so they could move to Waverly. Doug wanted his children to grow up in the small town atmosphere like he did. So Doug and Donna bought a piece of property outside of Waverly and Doug drove back and forth to Topeka for 20 some years. Over time Doug decided he wanted to have his own business in order to offer financial services to banks and other financial institutions. In 1999 Doug founded Financial Management Services Inc. and managed the business out of Waverly. When Doug retired in 2014 he sold the business which now operates out of Kansas City, Kansas.
Doug and Donna attend the Homewood Community Bible Church, Homewood, Kansas.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Duane and Dwight Williams.
He leaves Donna, his wife of 53 years; his children, Darin Williams and wife Nancy of Waverly, and Denise Lott and husband Nathan of Mint Hill, North Carolina, and their three sons, Shane, Ethan, and Caleb Lott; a sister-in-law, Duane's wife Wilma Williams of Bolivar, MO, and their children, Teresa James (Jim) and daughter Courtney, and Tim Williams (Tricia) and children Emily, Joey, Jacob, and Rachael; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, August 12, 2021 at New Life Baptist Church, 705 S Westgate Rd, Garnett, KS. Burial will follow in Waverly Cemetery.
The family will meet with friends Wednesday, August 11 from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm. at New Life Baptist Church, Garnett, KS.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Homewood Bible Church and Evangelical Enterprises Inc. (the missionary work Doug and Donna have been involved in for years in Brazil) may be sent in care of Jones Funeral Home, PO Box 277, Burlington, KS 66839.
