Doug Wilson Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 26, 2024.
Carl Douglas "Doug" Wilson, 79, of Houston, Texas, passed away on February 16, 2024 after a battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS). He was born in Sebring, Florida on January 8, 1945. Doug attended primary and secondary schools in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Wichita, Kansas and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
He married the love of his life, Kay Lynne Carpenter in Wichita, Kansas in 1967 and they enjoyed 56 years of life together. Shortly after they were married, Doug attended Naval Officer Candidate School, Newport, Rhode Island, and began active duty as the supply officer on an escort destroyer.
After his naval tour of duty, he graduated from Harvard University with a Masters Degree in Business Administration and moved to Chicago to work for Baxter Travenol. Doug was hired by Anderson Clayton and relocated to Houston in January of 1980. By the early 1990's, Doug met Ken Uchikoshi and they established a working relationship/friendship while he served as Vice President and CFO for IPS Services for 28 years. Doug also acted as a financial consultant and tax advisor to a private clientele.
Doug loved his family and is survived by his wife, Kay; his daughter Karla Nails (Jerry) of Spring Texas; grandchildren Darla Faulkner (Tristen); Braelyn Nails, Amanda Hileman (Lee), Jerry Nails II (Nicole), and seven great-grandchildren. His brother Dudley Wilson (Karen) of Warner Robins, Georgia. Sister-in-law Karen Tipton (Buster) of Highland Village, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl W. Wilson and mother Rosemary S. Wilson.
Doug loved to travel and was most at ease while on adventures with his wife Kay. In all, they visited over 60 countries and 49 of the 50 states.
Doug and Kay were strong supporters of the arts. In lieu of flowers, he would have appreciated your donations to the Houston Symphony, the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, The Natural History Museum, or the Houston Zoo.
The family extends grateful appreciation for the compassionate care by the healthcare team at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and the support of their friends, neighbors and those of John Wesley Methodist Church.
A celebration of Doug's life will be held at John Wesley Church on March 13, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the church.
