Douglas R Almy, 56, passed away on September 6, 2025, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Born on November 4, 1968, in Lakeview, Michigan, Douglas, lived a life rooted in his love for family, friends, sports, and the great outdoors.

He is lovingly remembered by his father, Charles Large; his daughter Katie Hoeker and her husband Ethan; his son Douglas Almy and partner Sabrina Schaefer; his sister Michelle Harwood and her husband Aaron; and his brother David Bonnell and wife Andrea. Douglas was a grandfather to Karsen, Noah, Liam, and Ila. He also shared a close bond with his Sparta, family Corey, Leslie, Scott, and Steve.

Douglas was preceded in death by his mother Linda Bonnell and stepfather David Bonnell.

A passionate sports enthusiast, Douglas was an avid supporter of the Michigan Wolverines and the Pittsburgh Steelers. His love for football was matched only by his appreciation of nature-he cherished time spent outdoors and found peace in the natural world around him.

Known for his generous spirit, Douglas was always willing to lend a helping hand. His kindness left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him. He will be especially missed by his west side family, his dear friend Julie, and her dog Bruno.

May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
