On November 11th, 2025 Douglas Gene Bak of Irene, SD passed away unexpectedly at the age of 65.
Doug was born on December 29th, 1959 to Erlin and Carol (Peterson) Bak. Doug grew up and spent his life in Irene, SD. Doug attended Irene Public School and graduated from Irene High School in 1978.
He married Janet Lyngstad on August 1st, 1981 and from this union they had two children (Linda and Derek).
During his life he worked a variety of jobs. He worked for Charlie Larsen in Irene, SD for many years.
Doug loved his children and his grandchildren. He would love hearing about his grandchildren’s activities and his eyes would light up when talking about his grandchildren. Doug’s love for his family and his pets will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Doug had a love for deer hunting and golfing. He went on several hunting trips with his friends out in Western SD and he was in a golf league at Glenridge golf course for many years.
Doug is survived by his daughter Linda (Mike) Frerichs, grandchildren Zander, Alaina and Maverick Hardy and son Derek Bak all from Yankton, SD. Brother in law Daniel Rempp Irene, SD, aunts Leone Brockmueller Yankton, SD Kathleen (John) Holleman, Apache Junction, AZ and Jackie Peterson, Viborg, SD.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Erlin and Carol Bak, his sister Teresa Rempp, grandparents Oliver and Edna Bak and Melvin and Agnes Peterson, aunt Lois Stedronsky and uncles Bruce Brockmueller, Russ Stedronsky, and Lyle Peterson.
Per Doug’s wishes there will be no funeral service. There will be a private burial with his children, son in law, and grandchildren.
