Douglas Collins Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sawyer-Fuller Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Mar. 1, 2026.
Douglas Adam Collins, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully at his home in Oak Park, MI, on February 27, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 27, 1944, in Detroit, MI, Douglas's life was marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and commitment to his community.

Douglas married the love of his life, Ann, on August 2, 1980, and together they built a family that was his pride and joy. He was a devoted father to Doreen Collins (Richard Carroll), Amy Collins, Amy Dzapo (John Dzapo), and Adam Collins (Myra Collins). His grandchildren, Dylan Carroll, Dylan Summers, Daniel Summers, Destiny Summers, Colin Dzapo, Lilah Dzapo, Melissa Collins, Adam Collins, and Sebastian Collins, brought him immeasurable happiness. The joy of his life expanded with the arrival of his great-grandchildren, Torin and Joseph Collins. Douglas's love and guidance will forever remain in their hearts.

A resident of Oak Park for over 50 years, Douglas was an active member of the Genesis Church of Royal Oak, MI, where he lived his faith and served his Christian community with devotion. His brother, Darrell Collins (Judy Collins), will remember Douglas as a man of strength and integrity. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel and Delbert Collins; his brother, David Collins; and his sister-in-law, Barbara Collins. Douglas's memory will also be cherished by his numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Douglas honorably served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he embarked on a successful career as a Logistics Manager in the Steel Industry, where he worked diligently until his retirement. His colleagues respected him for his work ethic and his unwavering commitment to excellence.

Beyond his professional life, Douglas was a passionate Master Mason. He was initially a member of the former Rubicon Masonic Lodge in Detroit and later continued his Masonic journey with the Berkley F&AM Lodge 536. His dedication to the principles of Freemasonry was evident in his actions and the wisdom he imparted to others.

Douglas Adam Collins lived a life full of purpose and love. His legacy is one of honor, family, and service, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have felt his influence.

Visitation Tuesday, March 3, 2026 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM with a 6:00 PM Masonic service at Sawyer-Fuller Funeral Home, 2125 W. 12 Mile Rd., Berkley, MI. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at the funeral home with the Rev. Beau McCarthy officiating.
