Douglas Roger Corbin, affectionately known as Doug, was born on March 21, 1936, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He passed away peacefully on November 30, 2024, in McLean, Virginia.
Doug earned his Bachelor's degree at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, followed by a Master's degree at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He was a well-loved high school history teacher in Janesville before moving back to northern Virginia to be closer to family. There, he served as a budget analyst at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, where he applied his analytical skills and leadership to public service. He was friendly and well-liked at his workplaces, and kept up several lifelong friendships.
Throughout his life, Doug had many interests and hobbies. He had an enduring love for classical music; as a high school student, he saved his money to buy a baby grand piano, choosing that instrument over a car. He had a big record collection, and one of his favorite traditions was a yearly Beethoven's birthday party with close friends. He enjoyed playing bridge, chess, and tennis, sailing with his father and children, bicycling, and jogging. His love of old furniture and architecture was satisfied by touring historic homes and crafting furniture from Bartley kits with exacting attention to detail. He was also known for expertly grilled steaks and delicious soups.
His legacy is carried on by his beloved family: his wife Susan, daughter Amy (Thomas), son Kenneth (Amy), and four grandchildren, Imogene, Andrew, Julius, and Natalie. Doug is predeceased by his late parents, Francis and Constance Pedrick Corbin, whom he lovingly cared for in their old age, and his sister Sarah (Sally) Rogers. Doug set an example of centering family, hard work, and intellectual engagement and respect for knowledge–all of which his children carry with them. Doug will be deeply missed, yet will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
