He was a native and lifelong resident of Waycross. Matt graduated from the Ware Magnet School in 2001, the University of Georgia in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in sociology, and Florida Coastal School of Law as a Juris Doctor. Matt was a member of Second Baptist Church.
Matt's mom said it best, "he was a beautiful son and loved by so many!" He was a compassionate, fun-loving person who enjoyed helping the "underdog". Matt was an athletic, avid UGA fan, and a compassionate animal lover.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Dewitt and Lillian Hiers; and paternal grandparents, Verdie Corley and Wilton K. Ellis, Sr.
Survivors include his parents, Lillian Diane Hiers Ellis and Wilton Kenneth "Kenny" Ellis, Jr. of Waycross; one brother, Neil Ellis (wife Katie) of Colbert, GA; half-sister, Kimberly Ellis Hart (husband Robbie) of Waycross; niece and nephews, Hannah Hart, Jonah Ellis and Lukas Ellis; aunts and uncles, Steve and Jeanie Hiers, Wendell and Julia Hiers, Wayne Hiers, Cecil and Debbie Eunice, Maggie Corley and Teresa Corley; best friend, David Lowery; and numerous cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday (September 27, 2023) at Greenlawn Cemetery.
Sympathy may be expressed by posting to his tribute wall at www.musicfuneralhome.com.
