Mereness-Putnam Funeral HomeDouglas I. Foland, 71, of State Route 145, Schoharie, New York died Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Cobleskill Regional Hospital.
Born on September 12, 1954, in Cobleskill, NY, he was the son of William Henry Foland and Myrtle E. Rowlison Foland. He attended Cobleskill schools and was a lifelong resident of Schoharie County.
Douglas was a highly regarded, self-employed landscaper and handyman. He built a reputation for quality and integrity.
He was a member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Cobleskill.
Douglas was a very patient, kind, intelligent, and humble man. He was compassionate, nonjudgmental, and would do anything for anyone. He was a gracious reader and had a love for music, using his talents as a musician and songwriter. He loved nature and studying theology. He was a great teacher. He loved his grandchildren immensely and they affectionately called him, Papa. They were the light of his life.
His parents and sister, Linda J. Foland predeceased him.
Douglas is survived by his wife, Susanne J. Foland; daughters, Pamela (Jasim) and their children, Aubrey, Shelby, Lorali, Lenore (John) and their children, Vasoula, Sophia, Theodore, Aloe (Jim) and their daughter, Jasmine.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, December 5, 2025, from 3:00-5:00pm at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill, NY 12043. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 5:00pm at the funeral home with Father Paul Hunter officiating.
Contributions in memory of Mr. Douglas I. Foland may be made to The Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley, PO Box 40, Howes Cave, NY 12092. Douglas had a fondness for animals, rescuing many himself.
