Douglas Ira Good

Douglas Ira Good (August 30, 1940 – December 10, 2025) Douglas Ira Good, 85, of Savannah, Georgia, died 12/10/25 at home. Originally from Winterset, Iowa, he attended Drake University, and was soon drafted into the US Army. He met his first wife, Judy Fliger, when she was a nursing student and he was or orderly working at Broadlawns's Hospital in Des Moines. They married and had 3 daughters.

Doug had a 50 year career as the General Manager of some of the most notable golf clubs in the U.S., including Firestone Golf Club in Akron, Ohio, Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va., and Brays Island Plantation in Sheldon, S.C. in the 1990's.

Doug met his second wife, Kimberly Caris Backus, in Ohio. They married in 2002 and returned to the Low Country that he loved, in 2006. They have lived in The Landings on Skidaway Island in Savannah since 2013. Doug continued to consult for clubs around the country until his health would not allow the travel. He became a valued member of the Hilton hospitality team in Savannah.

Kimberly's sons stayed close by in Bluffton, S.C., and Doug's life revolved around family and friends. He spoke often about how special it was to have the circle of friends who enriched his life in Savannah. He attended Hope Arbor "Social Club" and Respite Care at Isle of Hope UMC, in his last years. Doug loved the people and found purpose in the relationships he built while attending three days each week.

Doug was active as a Stephen Minister for many years and a member of Compassion Christian Church since 2008. Through the Lighthouse Ministry at Compassion, he delivered groceries to residents at the Williams Court Apartments and shared Kimberly's visitation ministry. He was loved and appreciated by Compassion's Small Group and Thursday Night Men's Bible Studies.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents William and Dorothy Good, his ex-wife, Judy Good, and his brother Gregory Good of Buckeye, Arizona. He is Survived by wife Kimberly Good, of Savannah, Georgia; daughters Dee Dee (Jeff) Cook, of Oregon; Natalie Good and Elizabeth Good of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; step sons, Grant (Stephanie) Backus and Arden Backus of Bluffton S.C.; brothers Steve (Judy) Good of Spencer, Iowa; Tom (Judy) Good of Johnston, Iowa:, sister Deborah (Richard) Koval, of Keaau, Hawaii; 9 grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
