Douglas McArthur “Papa Doug” Hamilton passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, in Fort Pierce, Florida. Born on March 11, 1943, in Madison County, Florida, to J.C. and Pearl Hamilton, Doug lived a full and vibrant life that touched the hearts of many.

Though born in Madison County, he spent most of his life in Winter Beach before eventually settling in Fort Pierce, where he would leave a lasting legacy. Doug proudly served his country as a U.S. Army veteran—something he wore as a badge of honor for the rest of his life.

For 60 beautiful years, Doug was married to the love of his life, Bonnie Hamilton. He was a devoted husband, father, and “Papa Doug” to his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nothing brought him more joy than being surrounded by his family. He was the heart of every gathering, and if food was involved, even better—he was a true foodie. Whether he was cooking up a storm or calling his favorite food trucks (which he kept on speed dial), Doug believed good food brought people together.

Doug was known around White City as “The Mayor”—cruising the neighborhood in his golf cart, always ready with a story, a helping hand, or just a wave and a smile. He was a talented handyman who could fix just about anything and loved spending time fishing. After retiring, he continued to pour love and energy into his community by working in maintenance at Village Green Elementary. There, he quickly became a favorite among the students, who lovingly called him “Papa Doug.”

He was a past member of First Baptist Church and a man of simple wisdom, steady faith, and unshakable loyalty. Doug was known for his frugality—but more so for his generosity with his time, skills, and love. As the protective patriarch of the Hamilton family, he was the first call when something broke, when something was needed, or just when someone needed to feel safe and heard.

Doug is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie Hamilton of Fort Pierce, FL; daughter, Becky (Mitch) Wilson of Fort Pierce, FL; son, Brian (Linda) Hamilton of Fort Pierce, FL; sister, Maxine (Earl) Bass of Madison, FL; grandchildren, Caitlyn Wilson, Tyler Wilson, Tanner Wilson, Colton Hamilton, and Grace Hamilton; and great-grandchildren, Averi Wilson, Mila Mejia, and Mia Mejia.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Virgie Reams, Margie Lee, Johnnie Hamilton, Clyde Hamilton, Bobby Hamilton, and Joseph Hamilton, as well as his parents, J.C. and Pearl Hamilton.

Doug Hamilton lived a rich, joyful, and giving life—one defined by love, laughter, and purpose. He will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know him, but his legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the lives he touched, and the memories he helped create.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Haisley Funeral Home, 3015 Okeechobee Road, Fort Pierce, FL 34947, with a service beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at White City Cemetery, 3800 Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Pierce, FL 34982.
