Douglas Hammond Obituary

Douglas W. Hammond

Youngsville, NC - Douglas W. Hammond, born July 17, 1943 in Canaan, New Hampshire, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, in Youngsville, North Carolina.

Doug was the son of Raymond and Evelyn (Jameson) Hammond. Doug, one of seven, grew up in Lebanon, NH, with his older siblings Paul, Don, Edward "Spud", Sue, Phillip, and younger sister Carol. He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1961, working briefly as a school janitor before a long career as commercial truck driver. He drove virtually every type of truck over his career, culminating in driving school buses into his retirement. He enjoyed visiting with his family, snowmobiling, stock car racing (basically auto racing of any type!) and making conversation with just about everyone he met wherever he went.

He met his wife, Teena (Roof), thanks to a match made by his older sister, Sue. The pair were married in 1970 at Cathedral of the Pines in Rindge, New Hampshire, and raised their four children, Andrea, Eric, Eron, and Evan, in a house they built in Canaan, New Hampshire. After the loss of his wife, Doug found love again in Doreen Fish in Norfolk, New York, before ultimately moving to Raleigh, North Carolina where he lived for the past four years.

Doug is survived by his three sons; Eric and wife Holly Hammond of Broomall, PA, Eron and wife Jesse Hammond of Youngsville, NC, and Evan and wife Sara Hammond of Canaan, NH, son in-law Jeremy Burke; eleven grandchildren Eliana Burke, McKenna Burke, Kayla, Abbee, Tyler, Lucy Burke, Breeanne, Galen Burke, Bryce, Cameron, Brayden; a sister Carol Macie; along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Teena; daughter, Andrea Burke; all of his older siblings; and his companion Doreen Fish.

Doug's remains will be laid to rest adjacent his mother Evelyn in the Canaan Street Cemetery this summer.

Memorial contribution may be acknowledged to David's House, 461 Mount Support Road, Lebanon, NH.
