A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late George A. and Alice Kalne Smith; she was a graduate of Bob Jones Academy and Swedish Covenant Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago. She served as a nurse in Florida and Ohio, and was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, James Mclauchlin Phillips, Sr. of the home; a son, Mark Andrew Roeder of Taylors; a stepdaughter, Missy Morphis (Scott) of Youngsville, North Carolina; and two grandchildren, Anna Roeder and Andrew Roeder.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Dr. James Keith Roeder; a daughter-in-law, Holly Roeder; and a sister, Sheila Smith.
A funeral service will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2026, at The Wood Mortuary Chapel. Webcasting will be available at www.thewoodmortuary.com. A private committal service will be held.
Visitation will be from 3:00 until 3:45 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the mortuary.
Memorials may be made to Hidden Treasure Christian School, 500 W Lee Road, Taylors, SC 29687.
