Douglas D. Harmon, 65, passed away unexpectedly on January 11, 2025 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka. A lifelong resident of Plymouth, Doug was born to Darrell Harmon and Bonita Lowe on December 10, 1959.
A proud member of Plymouth High School’s Class of 1978, Doug embarked on a successful career as a machinist at Bomarko. However, custom woodworking is where he truly found his passion. He had a special talent for crafting custom kitchen cabinets, each piece a testament to his skill and dedication.
When he wasn’t working, Doug was a true history buff. There are many fond memories with his family watching old war movies while snacking on a bowl of cereal or savoring a Reese’s peanut butter cup. Doug also collected and restored Wheel Horse tractors; a hobby that was shared with his son, Jamie.
Doug shared a wonderful life with his beloved wife, Vicky Sliter, whom he married on June 27, 1987. Together, they created countless treasured memories while camping and traveling. The arrival of grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought Doug immense joy; he embraced his role as a grandparent wholeheartedly, and his family meant everything to him.
Doug's caring and easy-going nature will be fondly remembered by family and friends. His laughter, kindness, and warmth will be profoundly missed, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Doug is survived by his wife, Vicky; children, Angela (Chris) Owens, Nikki (Jason) Masterson, Jamie Spiegel, and Ava Harmon; grandchildren, Tiffany, Stacy, Tabitha (Mike), Paige (Tyler), Ashton, Alexis, McKenzie, Mason, Lilly Anne, Khloe, and Summer; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Olivia, Emily, Hazel, Jensen, Anakin, Katelyn, Kylie, and Nylah; siblings, Greg (Carol) Harmon, Debbie (Roddy) Shock, and Daryla Monesmith; along with several nieces and nephews. Doug will also be missed by numerous of his very close friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Darrell and Bonita; great-granddaughter, Mercedes; in-laws, Doris and Oran Sliter; and brother-in-law, Rick Sliter.
