Douglas Holen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapels - Edina on Feb. 17, 2026.
Douglas Charles Holen, age 91, of Minnetonka, MN passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born March 15, 1934 in Little Falls, MN to Henry and Eunice Holen.

As a child, Doug moved with his family to the Lake Nokomis area of South Minneapolis, where he was raised with strong family values and hard work that guided him throughout his life. He graduated from Vocational High School in 1952 and continued his education at Dunwoody Institute. He worked until he was drafted in 1956 into the U.S. Army Infantry, proudly serving his country while stationed in West Germany.

Following his military service, Doug continued what would become a remarkable 54-year career as a sheet metal worker, spending the last 32 years at the Minneapolis School Board. Over more than five decades in the trade, he took pride in honest work and in providing for his family.

Doug was preceded in death by his father, Henry; his mother, Eunice; his sister, Joyce; and his beloved grandson, Harry.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Donna, whose partnership and love were the foundation of his life. He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Janet; his son, Greg and daughter-in-law Cathy; and his cherished grandchildren, Brad and Jill. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends.

A devoted husband and father, Doug took great pride in his family. He treasured time spent together-whether gathered sharing stories and laughs or enjoying days at the cabin. Known for his talkative nature, warm smile, and generous heart, Doug had a gift for making others feel welcome and valued. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Doug was a car enthusiast. He was passionate and fascinated by all things automotive but specifically favored classic cars having purchased his first antique car-a Model T-when he was just 18 years old. He enjoyed connecting with other owners through car shows and hearing the stories that they shared. Memorials are preferred to Mount Olivet Motorheads, reflecting one of the car communities that brought him great joy.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church West Campus, with visitation beginning one hour prior at 11:00 a.m. Private interment will take place at Lakewood Cemetery.
