Douglas Eugene "Doug" King

Douglas "Doug" King, 79, of Edina, Minnesota, passed away on March 12, 2026.

Doug was born on August 29, 1946, in Minneapolis, along with his twin brother, Dallas, to Charlotte and Ray King. He grew up in Edina as a proud Hornet and standout three-sport athlete, playing football, hockey and baseball. He went on to play hockey at Colorado College, where he met future brother-in-law Steve Higgins, who introduced Doug to his sister Nancy - known to most as Ging. Doug and Ging (yes, Ging King) were married in 1970.

Doug spent most of his career in the orthopedic device industry, where his entrepreneurial spirit led him to work with several startup companies. But his favorite place was on the golf course- there wasn't a foursome he didn't like, his name a familiar sight on the tee sheets at ECC, Tonto and the HOG.

Known affectionately as "Dog" to his buddies, he treasured friendships old and new. Above all, Doug loved his family, especially his grandchildren, Kiley and Ryder. There was no more loving or proud Papa than Doug - particularly when it came to showering Kiley with hugs or cheering boisterously for Ryder and his team on the field or at the rink.

A faithful Catholic, Doug wore his heart on his sleeve and was known for his kindness and joyful spirit. Despite lifelong health challenges, he never complained, living with quiet strength and grace. He brought his faith, love and compassion everywhere he went.

Doug is survived by his wife, Ging; his daughter, Lindsey Gorski (Craig); and his grandchildren, Kiley and Ryder. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Charlotte; brothers Tom and Dallas; and sister Lana.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on June 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Edina with visitation one hour prior to the service and a celebratory reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are requested to be directed to an organization of your choice.
