Douglas Lyle Hulce

1946 - 2025

Douglas Lyle Hulce, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Logan Methodist Church, 103 South 2nd Street. Logan, New Mexico with Pastor John Barrett officiation. Burial to be held at a later date at Vivian Cemetery in South Dakota.
Douglas was born on September 2, 1946, in Pierre, South Dakota to Lyle Hulce and Antha Haywood. Douglas married Doris Hulce on June 13, 1969, in Pierre, South Dakota. Doug loved people, had a wonderful sense of humor and was a hard worker. He grew up in Vivian, South Dakota where he could be found hunting, fishing, riding his bicycle and hanging out with the neighborhood kids. In his early teens and throughout his teenage years he spent his summers and weekends working on his brother-in-law's farm where he drove tractors, combines and other farm machinery. He attended Black Hill State University, in Spearfish, South Dakota and received a BA in Education in 1969. He then began 38 years in education. He spent most of these years in Logan Municipal Schools, Logan, New Mexico where he taught history for 17 years, was principal for 5 years and superintendent for 7 years. He also served as superintendent of schools in Wall, South Dakota and Magdalena, New Mexico. During these years Doug owned and operated Ute Junction Fishing and Tackle in Logan for 30 years and J-D Auto Connection in Logan for 10 years. He was a busy man!
He is survived by his wife; Doris Hulce of the home, daughter; Paula Klinger (Michael) of PA, two sons; Justin Hulce (Tammy ) , Jonathan Hulce ( Kristi), Sister; Evelyn Ericson ( Marvin of Blackhank, SD, and son in law; Jayson Flory of NH.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Lyle and Antha Hulce, Daughter Jennifer Flory, sisters; Joyce Smith, Mary Praetorius, Brothers; James Hulce, Howard Hulce, sister-in-law; Betty Zolnowsky, and grandmother; Maude Haywood.
