Douglas Odell Jordan, known to everyone as "Sonny", was born in Manassas, Virginia on August 30, 1943 to the late Odell and Nancy Jordan. He departed this life after a long health battle on February 13, 2025.
Sonny began and completed his education in the Prince William County Public School system. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Air Force. During his tenure, he served at a weather relay station for two years at High Wycombe Air Station in Buckinghamshire, England. Because of his outstanding performance, his exemplary character, professional demeanor on and off duty, he received many accolades. He was known as an excellent credit to the Air Force. At the time of his honorable discharge in 1968, he had been promoted to Sergeant.
Sonny will be fondly remembered for his friendliness, kindness, sense of humor, and as a savant. There wasn't a topic on which Sonny could not expound in-depth facts; whether it be politics, history, or sports - no matter the subject. Before his decline, Sonny was an avid reader and retained everything he read, heard or saw. He read the newspaper daily cover-to-cover and watched the morning and evening news, followed by Jeopardy, where he'd answer most questions before the contestants could. He was an avid Washington Redskins/Commanders fan and knew every game's score, stats, player's names and numbers; and he actually knew the same information about the opposing team. To know Sonny was to marvel at his intellectual acuity.
Sonny leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 60 years and caregiver Eva; his son Kenneth (Lauren); 9 grandchildren: Teshia, Christopher, Krystal, Kelsey, Logan, Cole, Khloe, Katherine, and Chase; 2 great grandsons: Calvin and Asher; two sisters: Toni Chapman (Malcom) and Kimberly Jordan; two brothers-in-law: Andrew and Robert (Joan) Edwards; three sisters-in-law (Lelia Bumbray, Virginia Edwards, and Mary Thomas); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including three loyal and stalwart cousins: Lawrence Newman, Thomas and Robert Brooks. He also has a very special great-nephew, Aaron, who affectionately referred to Sonny as "Grandbuddy".
