Roger Lee Akins

It is with heavy hearts we announce the unexpected passing of Roger Lee Akins on August 12, 2025, at the age of 60.

Roger Lee Akins was born in Brooklyn, New York on September 24, 1964, to Robert Lee Akins Sr. and Annette Kelly Akins. Roger gave his life to the Lord at a young age and was baptized. Roger attended New York Public Schools until the Akins family relocated to Rockaway, NJ in 1972. The family moved to Fairfax, VA in 1975 before settling in Reston, VA in 1977 and Roger completed his secondary education when he graduated from Herndon High School in 1983. Roger attended ECPI and Northern Virginia Community College before working for AT&T. Roger Akins and Jacqueline Lynch welcomed their first-born child, Roger Antonio, in 1987 and welcomed Jasmine Rene Antoinette in 1988.

Roger found much fulfillment in his life through his relationship with God, his family and friends, and photography. Most of his time was spent in acts of service to his community and loved ones. If he wasn't busy helping someone, he could be found doing a countless number of activities: hiking and birdwatching with his son, watching his favorite anime or talking about life with his daughter, loving on and getting bossed around by his granddaughter, out on another adventure around the town with his life partner, enjoying time with his siblings, mother, or nieces and nephews on a family outing or celebration, or on the phone with cousins or friends all hours of the day.

Roger resided in Centreville, VA from 1987 until his untimely final transition.

He is survived by his children, Roger Akins and Jasmine Lynch, his granddaughter and best friend, Jolene Lynch, his mother, Annette Kelly Akins, his siblings, Robert L Akins Jr, Robina L Walker, Rolandra L Akins-Covington, Ronald L Akins, and Rosella L Akins-Martin, his love and life partner, Tomara Morgan, and his many nieces and nephews.
