Douglas Deane Krueger, was one of four sons born to Hollace A. and Deloris A. (Kosel) Krueger in Springfield, Minnesota, on July 4, 1945.   He was baptized in August of 1945 in Springfield.  When Douglas was two years old, the family moved to Groton, South Dakota, where his parents purchased a farm and dairy operation.  Doug was confirmed at Groton Methodist Church in May of 1959, and attended Progress Country School and then Groton High School.  While Doug was in school, he became smitten with Rose Padfield, the two began dating and were married on December 12, 1965 at the Groton Methodist Church.  They made their home in Groton.  Growing up, Doug worked for a neighbor, doing farm work, and helped his Dad run their farm and dairy operation; this continued after high school and his marriage.   In addition to farming in Groton, they also farmed Doug’s Grandfather’s land in Synnes Township, Stevens County, Minnesota.  They continued to farm both locations and in 1967, Doug and Rose, bought the farm in Minnesota, and in 1969, they made a permanent move to Alberta.  They welcomed two children: Daniel and Rebecca.  Doug continued to farm until 1986; at that time, he rented out his land but continued to help with the farming.  In addition, Doug took a position at Heartland Motors in Morris, in the Reconditioning Department, where he worked until his retirement in 2020.

Doug was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Alberta, the West Central Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club, and the Morris Eagles.  Doug was always putzing in the yard, finding anything that he could make or repair – he enjoyed building things, especially the four deer stands that he built for his family to hunt.  Other favorite past times included: fishing, and traveling, especially the many trips to the Missouri River for fishing, the family trip to Yellowstone, the cruise with Dan and the trip to Alaska with Beka.  His grandchildren were a highlight of his life, he did not miss any event, if he was able, he was there!  ‘No’ was not in his vocabulary, and he was always willing to help anyone with one thing or another. Most importantly, Doug cherished the time that he was able to spend with his family and friends.

Douglas passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. He was 78 years old.

Douglas is survived his wife of 58 years, Rose of Alberta; son, Daniel Krueger of Jamestown, ND; daughter, Rebecca Krueger of Alberta; 6 grandchildren: Tyawna Buntje of Chokio, Shyler Buntje of Morris, Gracie Krueger of Fargo, Tessa Krueger of Jamestown, Kendra Krueger of Jamestown, and Harmony Coverdale of Alberta; one great-granddaughter Audrey Cronen; and brothers: Richard Krueger of Aberdeen, SD, Ronald (Jill) Krueger of Groton, SD, and Curtis Krueger of Brownwood, TX; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Hollace and Deloris; parents-in-law: Arthur and Audrey Padfield; granddaughter, Baby Krueger; sister-in-law, Joanne Krueger; and nephew, Christopher Krueger.
