PITTSFIELD - Douglas Eugene Laro, 77, of Pittsfield died on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Concord Hospital. Born on September 25, 1946, in Wolfeboro, NH the son of Eugene and Grace (True) Laro. His parents owned and operated the Laro dairy farm on Upper City Road. He worked on his family's farm while growing up helping with baling hay, collecting chicken eggs, planting crops, and herding the cows. He enjoyed living the rural life in Pittsfield. He was predeceased by his parents.
He attended the Pittsfield school system, graduating in 1964. Douglas attended the Thompson School at the University of New Hampshire in Durham. During his career, he worked in construction as a carpenter and a welder. He worked for R.C. Foss and spent many years working at H.B. Reed.
Douglas enjoyed going on daily walks in the neighborhood in which he would stop in to speak with family, friends, and neighbors. His family affectionately referred to him as the "mayor of Upper City." He also enjoyed gardening, caring for his property, cutting timber, mending fences, and going on drives. He especially enjoyed traveling on several adventures around America and Europe with his wife, Sarah.
Members of his family include his wife, Sarah Laro; daughters, Colleen and Darlene Laro; step-son, Morgan McCarthy; granddaughters, Elizabeth and Cassandra Boyd and Alanna McCarthy; brother, Arthur Laro and his wife, Wendy; his nieces, Michelle Smith and Annette Pelletier and her husband, Denis, and nephew, Eric Laro and his wife, Meghan.
A graveside service will be held at Floral Park Cemetery in Pittsfield on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. The service will be presided over by Jeremy Everson. Following the graveside service, please join the family back at the Park Street Baptist Church in Pittsfield for refreshments and a time to reminisce.
