Douglas S. Lomet ObituaryDouglas S. Lomet, 84, of Pensacola, Florida died Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, NJ.
Douglas S. Lomet was born in Neptune, NJ and lived in Oakhurst until 1994 when he and his wife Barbara transplanted to Spring Hill, Florida. Upon the death of his wife Barbara in 2008, Douglas moved to Pensacola, Florida with his son Douglas Jr and his wife Marie.
Douglas was an autobody repairman for 50 years working in both NJ and Florida in various autobody repair shops, until his retirement in 2008. While in NJ, he attended First United Methodist Church of Wayside.
His best friend was Barbara Lomet, his wife. From High School sweethearts to holding her hand as she passed on from respiratory complications. There wasn't a thing he wouldn't have done for her, if he could.
Douglas loved to work with his hands. During the working years as an autobody repairman, he did not have much time left for hobbies expect for camping vacations to spend quality time with his wife and children. Many camping vacations were spent in different locations in Pennsylvania as well as an assortment of campgrounds in New Jersey. After all the children had left the house, Douglas and Barbara enjoyed vacationing in the Caribbean Islands. During the working years, he had saved numerous wood working tools waiting for the day he could retire and use them.
After retirement, Douglas took up wood turning, wood carving, and creating wooden toys, or other wooden items meticulously made by hand. It was a true labor of love.
He was predeceased by his Wife, Barbara Lomet in 2008 and son Dennis S. Lomet in 2012.
Surviving are his children: Douglas S. Lomet Jr., Deborah S. Lomet (O' Koren); grandchildren, Krystal, Dennis, Jr., Scott, Marissa, Michael A. Grant, Jr. and Kaitlyn S. Grant.
Relatives and friends are invited to the interment at 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 04, 2025 at the Woodbine Mausoleum, Oceanport, 14 Maple Avenue, Oceanport, New Jersey 07757.
A church service for Douglas will be held on, March 22, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. at the Wayside United Methodist Church, Ocean Township, NJ.
