Cremation SourceDouglas "Doug" Charles McDoniel, age 76, of St. Clair Shores, passed away on February 18, 2026. Born on March 9, 1949, Doug was a man of unmistakable style and independent spirit who never stopped questioning the world around him.
A 1967 graduate of East Detroit High School, Doug proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his service, he built a long and dedicated career as a Pipefitter with Ford Motor Company, where he worked faithfully for 30+ years until his retirement. He took great pride in his trade and the years he devoted to his work.
Doug was a man of simple pleasures and interests. He cherished spending time at Higgins Lake, where he shared his love of fishing with his granddaughter, Hendrix. He also enjoyed bowling on several leagues over the years, valuing both the competition and the camaraderie. He had a curious mind and was known for diving into conspiracy theories, always eager to share his spirited thoughts with anyone willing to listen with a hot cup of coffee in hand.
A devoted follower of Detroit sports, he never missed a chance to watch the Red Wings, Tigers, or college basketball game. Doug was also a lifelong fan of The Rolling Stones, carrying a bit of rock and roll spirit wherever he went. Rarely seen without his signature hat, denim jeans, long hair, and beard, his look was a true reflection of his free-spirited personality.
He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Leia; his brother, David; and his father, Charles. He leaves behind those who will forever cherish his memory: his mother, Leola “Lee” McDoniel; his devoted wife of 50 years, Diane McDoniel; his daughter, Brie (Dan) Cischke; and his treasured granddaughter, Hendrix.
Doug will be remembered for his hardworking nature, his unmistakable style, and his independent way of thinking. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created and the stories he shared will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
A celebration of life will be held at Infinity Hall, 16650 E. 14 Mile Road, Fraser, MI 48026 on Sunday, March 8, 2026 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm.
