Douglas Padgett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Amory Funeral Home, Inc. - Yorktown on Dec. 8, 2025.
Douglas W. Padgett, Sr., age 88, of Yorktown, Virginia passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and quiet strength.
Born in Williston, Florida, raised on his grandparents farm and later moving to Seaford Virginia, Doug lived a long and meaningful life. He had a great devotion to his family, and an unwavering work ethic.
Doug spent more than three decades as a printing officer at the U.S. Army Printing Headquarters at Fort Monroe, Virginia. Known for his meticulous craftsmanship and reliable expertise, he took great pride in the work he did and the colleagues he served alongside. After retiring from his government career, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by opening his own business, Padgett's Printing. Here he continued to share his skills with the community. Outside of work, he served as a scout master, was an avid golfer and a devoted beekeeper. He found peace and purpose in caring for his hives and teaching others. Most of all, he loved the outdoors-camping, fishing, gardening and sharing those simple, unforgettable moments with his large family. Doug's life was defined by his love for the Lord and family. He was known for his kindness, loyalty, and a gentle spirit that touched everyone who met him.
Doug was preceded in death by the love of his life of 61 years, Betty Jean Padgett, mother Marguerite Phillips, father Walter B. Padgett, and sister Janet Rowe. He is survived by wife Shirley Epperly, son Doug Padgett Jr., daughter Laura Padgett Doster (Scott), daughter Ellen Padgett Middaugh (Robert), stepson David Dendy (Julie), half brother Jerry Padgett, stepdaughters Lori Hogge and Valerie Epperly (Pat). To include 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and many loved ones.
Services are Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at Amory Funeral Home in Grafton, VA. Visitation will be held 10am to 11am, followed by a celebration of life from 11am to 12 noon.
