Douglas O'Neal Phillips, age 73, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, passed away October 18, 2023 at Hospice of West Alabama. His Celebration of Life will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Magnolia Chapel North with Pastor John Jenkins officiating and Magnolia Chapel North directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at Magnolia Chapel North.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Jaime Phillips; mother, Zelma Terrell; stepfather, “Red” Terrell; father-in-law, Raymond Gray; and mother-in-law, Ella Jo Gray.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Phillips; son, Brent Phillips (Sara); grandchildren, Liam Phillips and Maggie Phillips; chosen granddaughters, Samantha Blackwell, Savanna Barnard (Spencer), Sonya and Slade Blackwell, and Roel and Jean Vaughn (chosen family).
Doug Phillips was a man of many words. He loved to talk to anyone and never met a stranger. He specifically loved to talk about Jesus and anything related to The University of Alabama. He spent a lot of his time as a member of Southside Baptist Church doing outreach work. He loved his family. He loved playing golf or going to an Alabama sporting event with his son and grandson. He was originally from Southside, Alabama, but he moved to Tuscaloosa to be close to his grandchildren. He was a loving husband who worked hard for his family at the Goodyear Tire Plant before retiring after 38 years. His presence and his words will be greatly missed. We take solace knowing that he is with the one he loved so much about.
Special thanks to the nurses and staff in the MICU & 6th Floor South at DCH.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of West Alabama.
