Henry Lee Peake, Jr. passed away February 4, 2026 at the age of 84. He was born April 24, 1941 to the late Henry Lee Peake, Sr. and Edna Lunette Stocks Barnes.

Lee's educational journey began at A. G. Parish High School, where he graduated with the class of 1959 as a star basketball player. His athletic talents carried him to Huntington College and the University of Alabama, institutions where his love for the game was matched only by the friendships he forged and the life lessons he learned.

Throughout his life, Lee was characterized by a calm demeanor and a level-headed approach to life, traits that endeared him to those around him. His wife, Jackie, often remarked on his kindness, noting how he consistently brought stability and warmth to their years together. The couple shared a profound bond, often enjoying the tranquility of nature through their adventures in hunting and golfing. Their travels took them across the globe, from the beautiful beaches of Hawaii and the stunning landscapes of Alaska to the vibrant streets of Las Vegas and the serene mountains of Colorado. Together, they even experienced a magical ride across Lake Tahoe and captured the essence of adventure while visiting Canada.

Along with his step-father, Leonard Barnes, he co-owned Barnes Music Company in Selma. He worked hands-on in the business, servicing and maintaining the company’s machines—quietly keeping everything running behind the scenes. Lee was also committed to his community, serving on the board of the Selma County Club and participating actively in the Selma Quarterback Club during his younger years. His devotion to First Baptist Church of Selma was evident in his involvement with the Maverick class until his health no longer permitted. Alongside his family, he found strength and solace in the church, where they were long-time members.

One of his proudest accomplishments was coaching youth baseball, imparting his love for the sport to countless young players. Lee was a devoted grandfather who cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, sharing his passions with them in the great outdoors. Whether they were hunting together, teaching them to play golf, or cheering them on at every baseball and softball game, he played an instrumental role in shaping their values and interests.

He was preceded in death by his brother, John Michael "Mike" Peake and step-father, James Leonard Barnes.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jackie Peake; children, Lee (Kim Sims) Peake, III, Regina (Todd) Self, Mike (Michele) Stokes, Lyn (Glenn) Whitaker; grandchildren, Phillip Lee (Sydney Kate) Peake, Mary Taylor Peake (Whit Powell), Madison Lee (Patrick) Easley, Ryan (Morgan) Stokes, Blaine (Megan) Whitaker, Cade Whitaker; great-grandchildren, Clara Jane Easley, Sawyer James Easley, Loren Lynn Easley, Cassie Lee Easley, Cooper Lee Stokes, John Caden Whitaker, Corey Jackson Whitaker, Camden Beau Whitaker; sister, Brenda Barnes Furr and a host of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma with Dr. Jerry Light officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., prior to the service.
