Douglas "Ray" West, age 93 passed away from this life into eternity on December 20, 2021. He was born November 20, 1928, to Charley Jacob West and Lola May Puckett in Hanson, KY. He was the youngest of 4 children. He lived the majority of his adult life in the Nashville area with the last 50 years in Gallatin.
Ray is survived by his wife of 48 years, Annie Mae West; 3 children, Joyce (Terry) Coggins, Randy (Dianne) West and Karen (Venn) White; 3 grandchildren, Kim (Tim) Brannan, Tammy (Chris) Sutton and Peyton White; 4 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Ray accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior in 1973 and has spent the last 48 years serving him each and every day. Beginning in a small Baptist church in Gallatin for 9 years then onto College Heights for the next 24 years and Hendersonville First Baptist for the last 15 years.
After 33 years with Sealtest, a division of Kraft Dairy Group, Ray retired in 1983. Of course, he quickly went back to work at a local grocery store owned by a close friend. Semi-retirement allowed him more time to enjoy his hobby of restoring antique cars with his son, Randy West and brother-in-law, James Johns. As age became a factor, he settled on smaller projects in his garage along with maintaining a small vegetable garden. He continued to enjoy life each and every day.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 28th from 1pm-6pm at Alexander Funeral Home and Cremation Center and Wednesday, December 29th from 12pm-1pm at Hendersonville First Baptist Church in the Chapel. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 29th at 1:00pm in the Chapel of Hendersonville First Baptist Church, 106 Bluegrass Commons, Hendersonville, TN. Burial will follow at Sumner Memorial Gardens.
