I just learned of Doug's passing from Linda who I understand is recovering from a fall. I am the nearby neighbor who never moved in adjacent to the condos.
Doug showed his interest in the house demolitions nearly 40 years ago and what were my plans. I had a plan but never was able to move in along with my parents and eventual wife. My parents have passed several years ago.
Doug and Linda's hospitality was generous but concerned for the community. When my nearest neighbor passed - Charlie we grew stronger, and Doug would invite me on boat tours showing me the boundaries stretching from shore of the good old days. I continued to cut the lawn until I could no longer manage. We took a few drives and talked about our health concerns along with the occasional high water.
Doug's engineering mind and community spirit (and finding that my wife managed the 'Meals of Wheels' program) kept us close while the project slowed to a crawl. I donated the property to the City and continued our discussion about the ' City project.'
Sadly, we will not be able to complete the story. We love Doug and Linda from our home down Jefferson in Downtown Detroit. I wish we had more time together.

Mr. Wing was a mentor, a friend, a thoughtful neighbor who played kick-ball with us growing up. Always happy to join in with the play as I grew up next door. Mr. Wing water skied in April almost every year. It was truly a right of spring. Amazing man. Amazing family.
