Mark S. Metry

Mark Saleem Metry, age 72, of Saint Clair Shores, Michigan, passed away on March 13, 2026. Born on August 13, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Gilbert and Eva Metry, Mark lived a life defined by devotion to his family, deep commitment to the law, and an enduring warmth that touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Mark was a graduate of Central Michigan University and the Detroit College of Law, now known as Michigan State University College of Law. Upon completing his legal education, he began his career under the guidance of his father, Gilbert Metry, and his uncle Frederick Metry at the Law Firm of Metry, Metry, and Sanom. Over the decades, the firm evolved into Metry and Metry, growing to include Mark's brother, Judge Dean Metry, his cousin Judge Theodore Metry, and, most recently, his son Christopher Metry. Mark managed a successful private legal practice for over 40 years, specializing in criminal defense litigation, and served with distinction as a long-standing magistrate of the 40th District Court of Saint Clair Shores, Michigan. A proud member of the State Bar of Michigan and several local bar associations, Mark built a reputation grounded in integrity, dedication, and a genuine concern for those he represented. Throughout his nearly 50 years of practicing law, he took special pride in mentoring young attorneys, including his cousins Theodore Metry, Eli Muawad and Brian Muawad, as well as his son Christopher, guiding them with the same patience and wisdom that had been extended to him early in his own career.

On February 14, 1981, Mark married the love of his life, Kyle Metry. Together they built a home filled with laughter, lasting memories, and enduring love. Mark was a devoted family man whose presence was felt in every aspect of his sons' lives, from coaching them in baseball and basketball to sharing with them his boundless enthusiasm for Detroit sports. A passionate fan, he attended countless games and sporting events, and anyone who visited the Metry home will fondly remember his impressive collection of autographs and sports memorabilia.

Beyond the courtroom, Mark embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. Mark loved music and was a frequent concertgoer, often enjoying performances alongside Kyle and their friends. He was a regular patron of the Fisher Theatre and the Detroit Opera House, where he enjoyed plays and musicals throughout the seasons. He and Kyle also shared a love of travel, often escaping to warm weather destinations, with Florida and St. Thomas among their most cherished getaways.

Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Kyle Metry; his sons, Sean (Julie Paavola) Metry and Christopher (Josie) Metry; his granddaughter Elizabeth; his brother, Dean Metry; and his sister, Lori (Graeme) [Metry] Kenny, niece Natalie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Eva Metry, as well as many treasured aunts and uncles.

Visitation for Mark will be held from 1:00-8:00pm on Friday, March 20, 2026 at Chas. Verheyden, Inc., 16300 Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 2160 E. Maple Rd., Troy, Michigan. Mark will lie Instate at the church starting at 10:00am until the start of the Funeral Liturgy at 11:00am. The family welcomes all who knew and loved Mark to gather in his memory and celebrate a life so fully and generously lived. May his memory be eternal.
