Doyle Goldsmith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ellis Funeral Home - Muleshoe on Feb. 23, 2026.
Doyle Kent Goldsmith, age 86, of Farwell, Texas, died on Saturday, February 21, 2026 in Farwell. He was born on December 10, 1939 in Clovis, New Mexico to Noble and Mae (Ingle) Goldsmith.

Doyle grew up in Farwell, attended Farwell Public Schools, and was raised in the Farwell Church of Christ where he was baptized into Christ at an early age. He devoted the rest of his life to serving Christ. In 1957, he married Camilla Jo Durham, and they had five children, Kent Goldsmith, Alton C. Goldsmith, Darrell Goldsmith, Tamara M. Hand, and Lezlie Berkner. In 1974, he married Jennie C. Shults and loved her two children, James D. Shults and Kevin L. Shults.

Doyle and Jennie started their marriage in Farwell. After the three older boys graduated from high school, they settled in Ruidoso, New Mexico and lived there until 1985. They relocated to Oklahoma, where they both worked for and retired from the State of Oklahoma in Tulsa. As they did in Farwell and Ruidoso, they made life-long friends with people at work and at church.Doyle loved hunting and was an avid fisherman, so just before he and Jennie retired, they moved to a house on a lake near Big Cabin, Oklahoma, where Doyle was able to fish to his heart's content. He kept his family and friends supplied with plenty of catfish, bass and crappie. When sharing a meal prepared by Doyle, those close to him knew to ask what "mystery meat" he was serving, knowing it could be whatever he may have caught or hunted that day.

As a Christian, Doyle enjoyed the Fisherman's Prayer: "God grant that I may live to fish until my dying day; And when it comes to my last cast, I then most humbly pray: When in the Lord's great landing net, and peacefully asleep, that in His mercy I be judged big enough to keep."

After almost 15 years on the lake, Doyle and Jennie moved back to Farwell to be close to family, and he greatly enjoyed time spent with his brother, sister, nephews, and their families.

He is survived by sons James D. Shults and wife Kelly of Santee, California, Alton C. Goldsmith of Sacramento, California, Darrell Goldsmith of Colorado, daughter Tamara M. Hand and her husband Edward of Deming, New Mexico, daughter-in-law Yvette Goldsmith of Farmington, New Mexico and son-in-law Keith Berkner of Billings, Montana and by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was proudly called Grampy by his grandchildren, Chelsea Goldsmith, Tanya Toledo (Stephen), Camilla Holt (Joey), Johnny Montes (Carlee), Brittany Goldsmith, Trey Goldsmith (Rocio), Melanie Lawler (Kyle), Stephen Goldsmith (Melanie), Victoria Pacheco (Kris), Rebecca Shults, Kyla Goldsmith (Brandon), Eric Shults, Phoebe Miller, John Robert Goldsmith (Aspen) and 24 great grandchildren. He was lovingly known as Uncle Doyle to numerous nieces and nephews.

Doyle is also survived by his brother, Dan Goldsmith and wife Deborah of Dimmitt, Texas; sisters, Iris Smith of Killeen, Texas, Vicki Hackney of Tyler, Texas, Jo Dell Capps and her husband Gary of Panhandle, Texas, and Gayla Parker and her husband Duane of Tyler, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife Jennie; his parents Noble and Mae Goldsmith; his sons Kent Goldsmith and Kevin L. Shults; daughter, Lezlie Berkner; brother Jack Goldsmith; and sister Delores Meeks.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to further his work for the Lord to Farwell Church of Christ, PO Box 96, Farwell, Texas, 79325.
