Doyle Hardwick Obituary Doyle L. Hardwick of Metamora, IN died on Monday, December 9, 2024, at the age of 86; just two months after losing his devoted wife of 63 years. Doyle suffered from severe dementia, but ultimately died of a broken heart over the loss of his soulmate. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Doyles quick wit, larger-than-life personality and generous heart will never be forgotten.
Doyle was born in Cains Store, KY on February 18,1938 to the late James and Ida Mae (Gossett) Hardwick. He spent his childhood growing up in the hills of Kentucky where he developed a love of the outdoors and inherited his mothers passion for cooking. He met the love of his life, Helen Tuggle, and they were married on October 24,1961. After living in California, they eventually moved to Indiana to be closer to family and made Little Duck Creek their home for the past 60 years. Doyle & Helens marriage was a love story that withstood the test of time and exemplified dedication and true everlasting commitment.
Doyle, a former tobacco farmer, worked at Ford Motor Company/Visteon in Connersville for many years where he made a great number of friends before retiring. Doyle was an excellent wood worker who enjoyed building birdhouses which he shared with family, friends, and strangers alike. He loved deer hunting, raising a garden, cooking his famous chicken and dumplings, and pulling a good prank on anyone he could catch off-guard!
Doyle leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter cherished by his family, including daughters, Denise (Marty) Sedgwick of Greenwood, IN and Bonnie Scarrette of Metamora, IN; six grandchildren; Morgan (Matt) Heller, Mason Sedgwick, Sam Sedgwick, Alicia Scarrette, Daniel Baker and Wayne Baker; sister, Wanda Anderson; 2 great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. In addition to his mother and daddy, Doyle was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen, and sisters, Julia Isaacs, Lois Hardwick, Shirley Hardwick and Norma Jean Hardwick.
Doyle will be remembered as a simple, hardworking man whose generous heart and quick-witted sense of humor touched the lives of everyone he met. To know Doyle was to love Doyle, and he was loved by many.
