Daniels Family Funeral Services - Strong-Thorne MortuaryDr. Danizete Ortega Martinez, 48, of Albuquerque, entered eternal rest on August 8, 2025. Born on June 13, 1977, in Albuquerque, she was the beloved daughter of Leude Ortega Olson and the late Albert Clancey Ortega. She is survived by her devoted husband, Dr. Derek Martinez; her loving mother; and numerous relatives in the United States and Brazil. Danizete deeply cherished her family and friends, especially holding a special place in her heart for her cousins.
Danizete was a distinguished educator, she received her PhD in Literature with distinction at the University of New Mexico before beginning a remarkable academic career. She held the position of tenured Associate Professor of English at the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus and served as Chair of Communications, Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences. She later brought her talent to Central New Mexico Community College as a Full-Time English instructor, where she also served as Interim Associate Dean from 2020-21 and 2022-24. Over the course of her career, she co-edited the book Teaching Writing through the Immigrant Story and authored numerous publications on Chicanx literature, leaving a lasting impact on her field.
A woman of refined style and distinct grace, Danizete combined sharp intellect with a bold spirit that often went against the grain. She embraced all things vintage, cherishing the fashion, music, and character of the past. Accomplished beyond measure in a remarkably short time, she was also a dedicated traveler who embraced new cultures and experiences with the same passion she brought to every aspect of her life.
A committed backpacker, avid reader, and nature lover, Danizete walked through life with spirit and sophistication. Whether teaching in the classroom, exploring the wilderness, or leaping from an airplane with fearless joy, she met every experience with wonder and courage, inspiring those around her throughout her life. She will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew her.
A celebration of life will take place at 10:30 a.m. on August 30, 2025, at the Sheraton Albuquerque Uptown, 2600 Louisiana Blvd. N.E., Albuquerque, NM 87110
