Dr. Hari Eswaran was a respected Biomedical Engineer, Professor, and Research Leader at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). He also served as Director of Research in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as the Institute for Digital Health & Innovation. With a Ph.D. in Applied Science, he led groundbreaking work in maternal-fetal health over the last two decades. He pioneered the development of non-invasive technologies, including the SARA system for fetal brain and heart monitoring. supported by NIH, he authored over 100 peer reviewed journal papers. He was the Director of the South Central Telehealth Resource Center, expanding digital healthcare access across rural communities in Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee. He was the co-founder of the Society for Education and the Advancement of Research in Connected Health (SEARCH) with support from Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for advanced innovation and equity in healthcare.

Hari was born in New Delhi, India as the youngest of three brothers. When he came to the US, he attended Ole Miss for a Masters degree, and then went on to obtain a Ph.D from UALR. Since then, Hari made Little Rock his home for the last thirty years as a devoted husband to Sudha and a proud father to Surabhee and Tarini. As a pillar of the Indian community in Little Rock, Hari’s contributions to cultural and community-building efforts are unparalleled. He was a helping hand, mentor to many, and had a zest for life. His contagious smile will forever be etched in the Little Rock community. Hari is survived by his wife and two daughters, his mother (Yogam), his brothers (Dr. Subrahmanian & Dr. E.V. Raman), and his nephews and nieces.
