Dr. Jack Marvin Elsom, PhD., 92, of Decatur went to be with his Lord Friday, September 26th, 2025 in Justin, Texas.

Graveside service is 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 30th, 2025 at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends at 10:30 a.m. at the Cemetery before the service. Gerre Joiner will officiate.

Jack was born June 8th, 1933 to Fred Marvin and Nannie Belle (Morris) Elsom in Decatur, Texas. He was united in marriage April 21st, 1955 to Lois Dean Patterson in Decatur, Texas. Jack graduated Alvord High School in 1951, he entered DBC in September of 1951, graduated in 1953, then entered North Texas University in 1953. He proudly served our country in the United States Army, was a Specialist 3, serving in England, and while serving he got his Bachelor’s Degree: going on to receive his Master’s and Doctorate.

Dr. Elsom served as a teacher in Houston, a counselor in Hillsboro, then went on to Corpus Christi and served as a counselor at Del Mar College. On to Dallas and El Centro College where he started a counseling program, then onto College of the Mainland in Texas City where he was Dean of Students. From there he went to Ranger Jr. College in 1971 where he served as President till his retirement in 1991. He and his wife, Lois have been members of First Baptist Decatur since 1992.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Fred Elsom; by his brothers, Bob Elsom and his wife Verna, and Billy Fred Elsom; a niece Sheri Cross.

He is survived by his wife Lois; his daughter, Janice, and son, Bruce and his wife Kristi; his beloved nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews; extended family and a host of friends.
