Dr. John Robert Pulskamp

John Pulskamp-orthopedic surgeon, Olympian, Navy veteran, and lifelong sailor-passed away on October 18, 2025, at the age of 90.

Born in 1935 in Columbus, Ohio, John was the middle child of Florence Fisher Pulskamp and Arthur Pulskamp. While attending medical school at Ohio State University, he competed in the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, where he placed fourth in the middle heavyweight weightlifting event.

Following medical school, John joined the United States Navy, serving aboard nuclear submarines and working with the Underwater Demolition Teams and the Navy SEALs. After completing his orthopedic residency at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans in 1969, he practiced orthopedics in Bakersfield, California, until his retirement in 1992.

Above all, John will be remembered as a devoted husband and father. He shared 65 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Brenda, who passed away just two weeks after him. Together, they built a large and loving family that cherishes all the wonderful moments they shared with him.

He is survived by his children: Tammy (Jim Curran), Flint (Janet), Tori (John Peterson), Valerie (Udi Margulies), Greg, Victor, and Cassie; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his siblings, Art Pulskamp and Patricia Hurlburt; his sister-in-law, Kay Furio; and his brother-in-law, Jack Furio. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Anastasia.
