Dr. Thomas S. Lossing, age 83, of Lompoc, California, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 10th, 2026. He was born on June 4th, 1942 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Donald and Dorothy Lossing. As a young man, Tom attended Michigan State University on a full-ride academic scholarship and studied zoology. He then went on to attend UCLA medical school. After finishing medical school in 1968, Tom met his future wife, Carol Lynn Lackey. Tom and Carol married in 1970, joined the U S Army Medical Corps and Army Nurse Corps, respectively and were stationed in Uijonbu, South Korea. Tom was a Captain at the 125th Medical Detachment.
After finishing their military service, Tom and Carol moved to Pasadena where their only child David was born in 1976. Later, they relocated to Santa Barbara where Tom ran a successful hematology and oncology practice. In the 90’s, Tom started seeing patients in Lompoc and began traveling to Lompoc more and more frequently. Eventually, they decided to move to Lompoc in 1998. Dave and his wife Noel would join them in Lompoc in 2001. Tom and Carol were fortunate to live in close proximity to their three grandchildren, Emma, Olivia, and Logan.
There was no role that Tom identified with more with than that of physician. As Dr. Thomas Lossing, he cared for the sick and was blessed to save countless lives in his lifetime. Tom retired from his medical practice in 2013 and sadly lost Carol in 2014.
Tom’s legacy of service lives on in the Lompoc community and in the next generation of Lossings.
