Dr. Thomas Mayhew, DDS, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. He was was an East High School graduate, class of 1970. Tom attended Carroll University to obtain his Bachelor of Science in 1974. He then went on to Marquette School of Dentistry, graduating in 1978. Tom was a general dentist in Green Bay for many years, having joined his father's practice in 1978.
In 1981 he married the former Laurie Counard. Together they had two children, Stephen (Olivia) and Colleen (Eric). Tom is survived by his former spouse, Laurie, children, and six (almost seven) grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Lance and Bea Mayhew.
Tom was a very active member of the American Cancer Society. He received the Brown County Volunteer of the Year Award in 1989. In addition, he developed several courses for medical and dental professionals. He received a special award for developing the format for large scale cancer screening programs In 1990 from American Cancer Society, Wisconsin Division. In 1993 Tom received the Young Dentist Leadership Award, Presidents Council for the Young Professional, in Washington D.C. for development of standardized oral cancer diagnostic programs.
During his career in Green Bay Tom was very active in the community. He and Laurie were members of the initial Artstreet committee. Tom was also instrumental in the creation of the Free Clinic, now the NEW Community Clinic, and served on it's Board of Directors. He organized a program to repair and provide bikes for the homeless.
Visitation at Malcore Funeral Home, 701 N. Baird St. Monday, December 22, from 4 PM until time of the service at 7 PM.
In lieu of flowers please direct any expressions of sympathy to the American Cancer Society or your local Humane Society in Tom's name.
