Obituary of Drew P. Austin, Sr.

WATERVLIET –

Drew P. Austin Sr., 69 of Watervliet, passed away peacefully at the Westchester Medical Center with his loving wife Maureen by his side.

Drew was the oldest child of the late Peter A. Austin and Mary T. Austin (Daley). Drew graduated from Troy High School in 1976 and left home shortly thereafter to join the Army, having proudly served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. Drew also spent many years in the Boy Scouts where he earned many merit badges and attained the highest honor of Eagle Scout. Drew was employed for several years at Emma Willard School as a Groundskeeper. He also worked in various positions of maintenance, plumbing, electrical and construction. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, Dutch oven cooking, smoking meat and telling stories. He especially enjoyed time with friends and family.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Todd M. Austin. He is survived by his wife Maureen A. Austin (Delap), his sister Kathy A. Austin-LaPoint (James), his beloved children Tara M. Hughgill (Scott), Drew P. Austin Jr. (Marla), and his grandchildren Makiah C. Hughgill and Peter R. Hughgill. He also leaves behind his longtime and childhood friend Fred McMahon, his cats Rudy, Jadie and his beloved buddy Sarge.

Cremation has taken place through the care of the Riverview Funeral Home, Inc. Relatives and Friends are invited to visit with Drew's family on Sunday, September 28, 2025 in the afternoon from 1-3PM in the Chapel of the Riverview Funeral Home, 218 2nd Avenue (corner of 104th Street) Troy, NY 12180.
