Duane Alan Etzwiler, 69, of Loveland, CO, died August 14, 2025, after a courageous fight following a cardiac event earlier this spring. He passed peacefully at home with his beloved wife of thirty-three years at his side, Cathy Ann Etzwiler, 65.

Duane was born April 26, 1956, in Ashland County, Ohio. He was the youngest of four children born to the late Ray and Alice Etzwiler. He graduated from Ashland High School, home of the Arrows, Ashland, OH, in 1974.

The great outdoors always called to him while enjoying hunting, fishing, and trapping. He may have owned every copy of Fur-Fish-Game that was ever printed. After school, there was no football practice. This is a kid who would grab his rifle, jump on his bike and head for the woods with this favorite hunting dog at his heels, Sam. Growing up in a rural farming community, much of the work Duane did after high school was on dairy farms. Duane also had a passion for weightlifting and bodybuilding. He loved collecting 45's, reading classics, trivia, and guns.

In 1990, Duane followed his family to Loveland, CO. After several years in the transportation industry, he took to lawn mowing and ground maintenance jobs. Again, where he was free to enjoy the outdoors while making many, many friends along the way.

Duane is survived by his wife, Cathy (Crisler) Etzwiler, daughter Valerie (Aaron) Cummings, and grandsons Elijah and Jeremiah of Longmont, CO. He is preceded in death by his son, David Etzwiler. Duane is also survived by two beloved cats. He will be sorely missed by one in particular, Lamia, whom he adopted from his son after passing from cancer.

Duane also leaves behind many friends along with a legacy of hard work and commitment.

A graveside service will be held Friday, August 22 at 12:30 pm, Loveland Burial Park. Reception to immediately follow at First Christian Church, south main entrance, 2000 N. Lincoln Avenue, Loveland.

While family flowers are most welcome, please feel free to choose making a donation in the Etzwiler Family name to NOCO Humane (formerly Larimer Humane Society), 3501 E. 71st Street, Loveland, CO, 80538, phone 970-226-3647.
