Duane (Buzz) Getzlaff, age 83 of Appleton, WI, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 3, 2024.
Buzz was born in Wisconsin Rapids on December 10, 1940, to Donald and Stella Getzlaff. He married Marilyn Herman on August 19, 1961, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church. They celebrated 62 years of marriage and together raised three children.
At an early age, Buzz worked alongside his parents and siblings in the family business, Getzlaff's Gardens. Growing up on a vegetable farm prepared Buzz for his future in the grocery industry - a career he enjoyed for 43 years. Buzz loved to travel with Marilyn across the country in their RV to watch NASCAR races and camp. Buzz also enjoyed water skiing, bowling, watching all sports and playing cards with his family and friends. Spending time with his grandchildren brought him great joy, especially regular Poker Nights.
Buzz is survived by his loving wife Marilyn; daughters, Karleen (Don) Kellison and Jane Zornow; sisters, Susan Getzlaff and Dianne Lau; grandchildren, Skyliar (Allyson) Kellison, Lindsey (fiancé Jorden) Kellison, Megan (Joe) Freimuth, Oliver (Rebecca) Zornow, Jordan (Brittany) Semrow, Melissa (Ryan) DeWilde and Evan Getzlaff; and 15 great-grandchildren. Buzz is preceded in death by his parents Donald and Stella Getzlaff; son Mark (Carol) Getzlaff, great-granddaughter Lydia Marie Zornow, and faithful companion Mocha Latte.
The family would like to thank the care teams and volunteers at Aspire Senior Living, Preceptor Hospice and Home Care and in-home caregiver Nancy Cook. A special thank you to the Herman-Taylor Funeral Home for assisting the family with arrangements.
Visitation will be held from 9:00-10:30 A.M. on Friday, May 10, 2024, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 1150 2nd St N., Wisconsin Rapids, with Mass to follow at 10:30 A.M. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Wisconsin Rapids.
