Duane Messmer Obituary
He was born Saturday, July 11, 1936 to the late Ora and Mary G. (Maxwell) Messmer in Morgan County, Indiana.
Duane was a graduate of Martinsville High School. He served his country in the Indiana national Guard. Duane was a forklift operator at Merchandise Warehouse in Indianapolis for over forty years. He was also a dairy farmer and showed Jersey cattle. In 1978 he won Best Indiana Bred Jersey Bull at the Indiana State Fair and won Grand Champion Jersey Bull at the 1978 Indiana State Fair.
He is survived by his sons, Stephen "Steve" Messmer (Terisa) of Martinsville, Alan Messmer (Melissa) of Martinsville; daughter, Shelly Long (Micky) of Camby; grandchildren, Josh Messmer, Caleb Messmer, Seth Messmer, Bryan Holley, Jonathan McMillan, Stephanie Katuzienski, Michael Hamilton; eight great grandchildren.
Duane was preceded in death by his grandson, Darrell Hamilton, parents, Ora and Mary; brother, Earl Messmer; sister, Gladys Jones.
Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2026 at Costin Funeral Chapel with Pastor Mike Wiley officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 14, 2026 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday two hours before the funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will be at New South Park Cemetery in Martinsville.
