Duane Strandlien Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cease Family Funeral Home - Bagley on Dec. 24, 2024.
Duane Walter Strandlien, 72, of Bagley, MN died on Friday, December 20th, 2024, at the Sanford Bagley Medical Center in Bagley, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Bagley, Minnesota with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will be held at Bagley City Cemetery in Bagley, Minnesota. Military Honors will be accorded by the Irvin Blix American Legion Post No. 16 of Bagley, MN.
Duane was born as the best Christmas gift on December 24th, 1951 to Norris and Lila (Christofferson) Strandlien in Bagley, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at what is now Faith Lutheran Church in Bagley, MN. He graduated with the class of 1970 from Bagley High School. After school, he joined the Navy and was honorably discharged for health reasons. He went on to work for Artic Cat and Steiger welding for 4 years in Thief River Falls. Duane then started trucking, working for a couple different outfits, settling in Ohio for many years. He was an American Legion member and went as far as he could in Boy Scouts, becoming an Eagle Scout in his late teenage years.
Duane loved classic country music, especially Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash; he even named his daughter Brenda Lee after the singer. He was a devoted guitarist and country western fan. He loved coffee, cowboy movies, and a good smoke. Duane had a great laugh, was full of great one-liners, and was a kind soul. He never had a bad word to say about anything or anyone. He was very appreciative, thankful, and humble. He had one of the biggest, grateful hearts. He was proud of his family and was encouraging in check-ins with different family members. He lived a happy and simple life. His faith was very important to him.
Duane is survived by his parents, Lila and Norris Strandlien; his daughter, Brenda Foster; his siblings, Lyle Strandlien, Craig Strandlien, Donavan Strandlien, and Susan (Bruce) Gilbertson; his grandchildren, Christian Schmidt and Gabrielle Schmidt; his step-son, Jonathan Oak; and many nieces, nephews, and other family.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Helmer and Allyne Strandlien and Walter and Lillie Christofferson.
