Duane Michael Vigil, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025, in Modesto, California, at the age of 77. A resident of Lathrop for the past nine years, Duane was born on June 5, 1948, in Walsenburg, Colorado.
Duane is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Christine L. Vigil, and their loving children: Jeanette and Michael Lowery of Lathrop, Arthur and Christine Vigil of Lake of the Pines, Kimberly and Mario Desena of Lathrop, and David and Berlyn Vigil of Folsom. He was a proud grandfather to Justin Vigil, Krystinee Lowery, Mitchell Lowery, Marco and Stephine Aguilera, Josh Vigil, Jayden and Amanda Vigil, Alexandria Vigil, Isabella Desena, Aiden Mosqueda, Sebastian Desena, Ethan Lowery, Gracie Mosqueda, Matthew Vigil, and August Vigil. He was preceded in death by his grandson Matthew Lowery, and his brother's Max, Arthur, and Douglas Vigil.
Duane is also survived by his siblings Debbie Vigil of Stockton, Robert Vigil of Texas, Lorena Varrella of Lathrop, Donald Perez of Stockton, Earl Wellwood and Myron Wellwood, both of San Jose.
A proud United States Marine, Duane honorably served his country from November 1966 to November 1969. His time in the Marine Corps instilled in him the values of loyalty, discipline, and integrity-qualities that guided him throughout his life. Semper Fi.
After his military service, Duane built a career in cybersecurity management and was well-respected for his leadership and work ethic. He was also an avid San Francisco Giants and 49ers fan, never missing a chance to cheer on his teams. Duane found happiness in life's simple joys like playing guitar with his late brother Max, dancing with Christine to the Beatles, and sharing laughter with his grandchildren. He held a deep pride for his brother Arthur, who made the ultimate sacrifice serving in Vietnam.
Duane will be remembered for his warmth, humor, generosity, and steadfast devotion to his family and friends. His presence brought light and laughter to every gathering, and his legacy of love and service will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home, 290 N. Union Rd.,
Manteca, CA 95337.
A graveside service with military honors will follow on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Rd.,
Dixon, CA 95620.
