Duke Wayne Turner of Granite Shoals, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025, at the age of 86 in
Marble Falls, TX. Born on July 11, 1939, in Slocum, TX, Duke's life was characterized by his loving nature, his infectious humor, and an unwavering sense of optimism that left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Duke's early years in Slocum were filled with the promise of adventure and the love of a tight-knit community. After graduating high school, he broadened his horizons by attending Stephen F. Austin University for two years, where he made lifelong friends and memories. His strong sense of duty then called him to serve his country, and he joined the army, where he proudly served until, he was honorably discharged.
Returning to civilian life, Duke channeled his discipline and work ethic into a successful commercial herbicide business. His dedication to his work was matched only by his commitment to his faith. As a devout Christian, Duke lived his beliefs through his actions, treating everyone he met with kindness and respect.
Family was the cornerstone of Duke's life. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Mari Margot Rowland Turner, and a loving family that includes his son, Craig Turner, and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth; his daughter, Amy Turner Beneski, and son-in-law, Brad Beneski; his stepson, Jacob Craig Edgar, and daughter-in-law, Christina Edgar; his sister, Jody Barnett Viertel; and his brother, James (Pete) Turner, and sister-in-law, Luzia Turner. Duke's legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Steven Cole Turner and his wife, Brooke; Abigail Edgar; and Alexander Edgar, as well as his step-grandchildren, Austin Howard and wife, Ashley, (and children Reagan and Everitt), and Jennifer Bushong and husband, Brinton, (and children Ben, Laken, and Waden).
He was proceeded in death by his father and mother, Duke H. and Foustina, and his sister, Pat Mitchell.
Duke's interests were a reflection of his love for the great outdoors. He found joy in raising cows and calves on his property, a passion that allowed him to connect with the land and the cycles of nature. An avid fisherman and hunter, Duke's happiest moments were often spent in the quiet contemplation of a sunrise over the water or the camaraderie of a hunting trip with friends and family.
Those who knew Duke will remember him for his loving heart, his quick wit, and his ability to see the silver lining in every cloud. His laughter was a balm to the soul, and his stories could light up a room. Duke's optimism was infectious; he believed in the goodness of people and the beauty of life, even in the face of adversity.
As we say goodbye to Duke Wayne Turner, we celebrate a life well-lived, a man well-loved, and a legacy that will continue to inspire. He has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him, and his memory will be treasured forever. Duke's journey on this earth has ended, but his spirit lives on through the love he shared and the lives he touched.
