Linda Castleberry-Henry was born May 9, 1948, and she passed peacefully, going to meet Jesus face to face, the morning of June 29, 2025. Linda was born in Tucson Arizona, to Clay & Imogene Smith. Linda was the baby of the family, and grew up in Arizona. Her Big Brother, Bruce, always suitably teased her, as any older sibling is obliged to do, & her older sister, Cecilia, watched over her, and would be her best friend, support, and confidant for many years to come! After graduating high school, Linda went to cosmetology school, and had her varied hairstyles and colors, looking gorgeous in every one! Soon after, Linda met and married, Larry Castleberry, and they moved to Texas. Linda then began the most prayed for season of her life, motherhood. Linda had a son, L.D. and a daughter Bettie. She often spoke of parenthood being her greatest desire, and it was indeed her calling and purpose, as she displayed unconditional love for her children, never wavering support, and always connected heart string ties, that would carry her and her babes through good times and bad, closeness, and vast distances!
Linda moved from Texas to Tennessee in 1977, beginning a new chapter in her life. She worked long hours at various jobs to provide for her family. When she was not at work, she could be found at Aunt Ceil's kitchen table, drinking copious amounts of coffee and talking till the "cows came home". Linda loved her extended family & friend, she was loyal, kind, and could always be counted on to help in anyone's time of need. Linda moved back to Texas in the early 80's and landed a job at the Frito Lay Factory. It was back breaking work, but she never stood down from a challenge. Her kids loved getting fresh hot chips off that conveyor belt (shhhh!), and all the chips they could eat at the company picnics! Linda resided in Rosenberg, then several other locations in and around the Houston area. Her & her husband were buying and fixing up properties long before flipping houses was a thing, so there were lots of moves involved in that. Linda adored music and loved to go out dancing. She met her 2nd husband, Dalton, dancing the night away at some honky tonk. The radio was on at her house all the time or she would spin her records,50's sock hop songs, that she grew up on, or the old school country and western music. So many precious times were spent in various living rooms, singing, dancing, laughing, and living life to the fullest!
Linda moved back to the mountains of Whitwell, Tennessee, in the late 90's, and began her "independent woman" season. She worked hard, as always, this time at a Dollar Store, and saved up to buy her own house and her own truck. She was so proud to make it and live on her own for the first time in her whole life! She knew everyone and everyone knew her. She never met a stranger and would have conversations with all she encountered and they would always have a smile upon the culmination of these talks, because Linda smiled endlessly and was so kind each time! The final season of her life began in 2014, when she was diagnosed with cancer in her voice box. By God's grace and provision, she was able to relocate back to Texas, receive treatment, then full remission for a glorious 10 years! She lost her voice, when the cancer was removed, but she gained a decade to be near her daughter and family.
She got a cozy apartment in Marble Falls, and lived out her golden years, crafting to her hearts content & taking it easy, after many years of working tirelessly. Her faith grew exponentially during this time, relying on and growing in God, in many unexpected ways, but all part of God's perfect plan! She shared her love for the Lord in ripple effects that continue to impact His Kingdom profoundly. She made cardboard/works of art/one of a kind, Jesus Ice Cream Cones, for her friend, Jim Booth's ministry, that numbered into the 10's of thousands! Each Jesus Cone passed out has God's word on it! Linda's spiritual voice resounded and roared, through all the help she gave in Jim's ministry. Now her voice is restored in Heaven and the angels are teaching her to sing. Linda is survived by her son L.D., daughter Bettie, son-in-law Charles, grandchildren Dan, Gil, Lev, Autumn, Hayley, and Charlie, great grandson Apollo, and a great granddaughter, due in October. She also has extended family and friends, who will her miss her exceedingly.
We do not grieve without hope, we have blessed assurance that we will see her again. Happy Trails to you, Linda, until we meet again, in eternity. Linda's memorial service, date & time, will be announced soon.
