Durwood Martin Davis, of Brandon, Mississippi, went home to be with our Savior on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
Durwood Martin Davis was born in Flora, Mississippi, on December 19, 1938, to the late William Harrison Davis and Leona Maudie Davis.
He graduated from the Mississippi School for the Deaf, Class of 1959. There, he was a member of the football, basketball, and track teams, where he was a star athlete, and broke state records. He worked for printing shops and enjoyed it for many years. He retired in 2003 from Graphic Reproduction.
In 1962, he married Martha Sessums Davis of Jackson, after attending the Mississippi School for the Deaf with her. They were married for 63 years and raised two sons and one daughter.
He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, yard work, traveling, sports, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an avid Mississippi State Bulldog fan. He was a long-time member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church for 57 years, where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He currently attended Liberty Baptist Church, and was cherished by many wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Harrison Davis and Leona Maudie Davis. He is survived by his loving, devoted, and caring wife, Martha Sessums Davis; his two sons, Bobby Lloyd Davis (Gale) and Victor Dale Davis (Amy); one daughter, Marta Lynn McKnight (Greg) all of Brandon; grandchildren, Avery Lee Davis (Alexis), Conner Lane Davis (Mady), Shine Boyd (Brock Anne), and Danielle Dear; and seven great grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to visitation and service at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, Mississippi, on Saturday, April 26, 2025. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am with the funeral service following in the chapel at 12:00 noon. The graveside service will follow at Crestview Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or the Mustard Seed at 1085 Luckney Rd., Brandon, MS.
