Dwarika Agarwal Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Natural Grace Funerals & Cremations - Los Angeles on Feb. 27, 2025.
Dwarika passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love from his family, after a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer 4 months prior. His death was marked by peace and love, as was his life.
He was born in Vidisha, India on Sept 3, 1942, to parents Madhavlalji and Radha Bai Agrawal. He stated that he never had a strong desire as a child to become someone "special" with great achievements. Rather, curiosity drove his life, and he felt a pull to learn as much about the world as he possibly could.
He studied engineering at Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay, graduating in 1965. He then moved to the United States in 1967 where he pursued his PhD in Metallurgical Engineering at University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1973. He met his wife Constance (Snyder) Agarwal there, and they were married in 1973 in York, PA.
Dwarika and Constance then moved to Pittsburgh where he completed his post-doctoral in Metallurgy at Carnegie Mellon University in 1975. They then moved to Buffalo, New York where they had their 2 children, Meena Elizabeth (born 1977) and David James (born 1982).
The family then moved to Attleboro, Massachusetts in 1983 where he was the Vice President of Engineering at Leach and Garner Company until his retirement in 2008. He has several patents to his name, including gold alloys he invented that are used in the jewelry industry to this day.
In 2014, Dwarika and Constance moved to Redondo Beach, California to be closer to David, Meena, and their grandchildren James and Lucy. During his retirement he enjoyed long walks on the beach every day, usually listening to music on his AirPods (the Beatles were a favorite). He also was very devoted to his volunteer work with the local chapter of Rotary International, and his alumni work with former classmates from the Indian Institute of Technology. Most of all, he enjoyed the time with his family including going to almost every school, music, theater, and sports game that his grandchildren participated in.
He is predeceased by his parents Madhavlalji and Radha Bai Agrawal, brothers Shankarlalji and Hanumandasji Agrawal, sister in law Indira, and brother in law Rajnikantji Bansal.
He is survived by his wife Constance Snyder Agarwal, daughter Meena and son in law Tony Lagnese, son David and daughter in law Neha (Gadodia) Agarwal, grandchildren James Pasquale and Lucy Elizabeth Lagnese, brother Ramesh Agarwal - sister-in-law Savitri, sister-in-law Premlata, sisters Shakun - brother in law Madanji Bansal and Pushpa Bansal.
He wished for a small family ceremony to commemorate his life, because as always, he wished for "no fuss" to be made over him. He also asked those who wished to make a charity donation in his name, to simply donate to any charity that is meaningful to them or to do something kind for someone they love, and to always stay curious about this wonderous world we live in.
