Dwayne Benson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anderson Funeral Service - New Brunswick on Feb. 10, 2026.
Dwayne Ashley Benson entered his eternal rest on February 1, 2026, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, at

the age of 53.

Dwayne, affectionately known as "Sauce the BBQ Boss," was born to Carolyn Jane Benson on January 22,

1973, in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He graduated from North Brunswick Township High School in

1991, where he was a proud member of the varsity football team.

He received Christ at an early age and later became a member of the Sharon Baptist Church. Known for his

joyful and fun-loving spirit, Dwayne loved football and was an avid New York Giants fan. He also had a

passion for dancing, moving with a lightness and rhythm that brought smiles to all who witnessed his

infectious energy and soulful moves.

Following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Life Benson Jr., and his uncle, Life Benson III, Dwayne

embraced the family's cherished recipes, putting his heart and soul into his cooking as he proudly carried

forward and expanded their barbecue legacy, taking great joy in feeding others and bringing happiness

through his food.

Dwayne was known for his warmth, vibrant spirit, sense of humor, and strong work ethic, as well as his

deep love for family and community. He adored his daughter, Jayla, the light of his life, and found

immense joy in preparing meals, sharing laughter, and telling stories with those around him. His presence,

generosity, and fun-loving nature left lasting memories with everyone fortunate enough to know him.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Carolyn Jane Benson; the light of his life, his daughter,

Jayla Marai Benson; his wife, Shanira Benson; Aunt, Rosemary Bradley, Uncle, Robert F. Benson, his

very special friend, Naja Ennals; his godmother, Claudia Milton-Puryear; along with a host of cousins,

godsisters, godchildren, lifelong friends, and the enduring impact of the many lives he touched
