Dwayne Dillard Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home - Castroville on Dec. 11, 2025.
Dwayne "Boney" Lee Dillard, age 64, of Leakey, Texas, passed away on November 19, 2025, at Methodist Main Hospital ICU. Born on August 3, 1961, in Orlando, Florida, he was the son of Robert D. Dillard and Rosa S. Pope, and was lovingly raised by Johnie J. Pope-our Dad, Daddy, and Papa.

The youngest of eight children, Boney was our baby brother, and he lived his life with a strength, humility, and work ethic that inspired everyone who knew him. He was dedicated, tireless, and fiercely loyal. His hands built log cabin homes, fixed what others couldn't, and were always ready to help anyone in need. If something was broken, Boney could mend it. If someone needed help, he showed up.

Boney proudly served his community through the Leakey Fire Department and Leakey EMS, where he once held the role of Fire Chief. For the past twenty years, he worked for JMI-traveling across the country and tackling every challenge with the same unwavering determination. No matter the job, Boney gave it his all. His kindness, generosity, and steady presence touched countless lives, and his impact will be felt for years to come.

Boney is preceded in death by his mother, Rosa S. Pope; father, Johnie J. Pope; father, Robert Dillard; niece, Rosa Dillard; half-brother, Dennis Cordery; and his beloved dog, Rusty.

He is survived by his beloved children and their spouses, Jessica N. (Justin) Arredondo, Joshua W. (Jillian) Dillard, and Johnie Jo Dillard all of Leakey, TX. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Payton Buchanan, Justice Arredondo, Raylee Arredondo, step-granddaughter, Melonie Arredondo, and to Weston, Birdie, Dawson, and Rosa Dillard. Boney is also survived by his siblings, Rosa Allen (Edward) of Elko, GA, Kenneth W. Dillard of Fredericksburg, TX, Leah E. Dillard of Castroville, TX, Melinda Shea (Chris) of Suisun City, CA, J.J. Piper (Shane) of Castroville, TX, and Donald Cordery (Sharon) of Denver, NC. He leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews-Lori Smith (Keith), Justin Tabor, Allie Adame (Kayla), Preston Dillard, Christopher S. Dillard, Morris Pilkington (Parker), Lauren McCluskey (Devon), and Brooke Piper-as well as three great-nieces, two great-great nieces, and two great-great nephews. Each of them carries a part of his love, his laughter, and the legacy of a man who gave so much of himself to so many.

Boney loved deeply, worked hard, and lived with a generous heart. He touched the lives of family, friends, and strangers alike-and the world is better because he was in it.

Celebration of Life will be on Friday, December 12, 2025, at 11 am, First Baptist Church of Castroville, 1408 Alsace Street, Castroville, TX 78009. Family will have a private Inurnment.
