Marsha Ackermann Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home - Castroville on Feb. 12, 2026.
Marsha Marie Veltman Ackermann of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026, at the age of 75. She was born on March 9, 1950, in Chardon, Ohio, to Joseph Henry Veltman and Mary Jean Woodard Veltman, who preceded her in death. Marsha lived a life defined by devotion – to her family, her students, and the many passions that brought her joy. She will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and the quiet strength with which she cared for those around her.

Marsha is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 50 years, Robert Douglas Ackermann of San Antonio. Together they built a life rooted in love, partnership, and mutual support. She was a proud and loving mother to her three children: Robert "Cody" Ackermann of Austin, Amanda Marie Ackermann of Skillman NJ, and Melissa Ann Ackermann Ripps of Hondo. Her greatest joy came from her role as grandmother to five cherished grandchildren; Laramie, Mason, Evan, Lane, and Maverick each held a special place in her heart.

Born in Ohio, Marsha later moved to Weslaco, Texas, where she attended Weslaco High School and Pan American University and began shaping the life she would come to share with so many. She remained close with her childhood friends, even up to her final days. While in Weslaco, Marsha joined the cheer squad, became a baton twirler as a majorette, played the flute in band, became a member of Kappa Delta, was named "Cutest Pan", and pursued her education degree. She devoted her career to education and was a beloved teacher, remembered by her students for her kindness, encouragement, and unwavering belief in their potential.

Marsha had a deep love for travel and the outdoors, finding peace in beaches, mountains, and the Texas Hill Country. In college she spent a summer working at St. Mary's Glacier Lodge where she fell in love with the mountains of Colorado. Colorado always held a special place in her heart and became her home away from home. She also had a profound love for animals, especially elephants and dogs. As a dedicated dog enthusiast, Marsha trained Australian Shepherds and proudly participated in obedience and agility competitions, forming strong bonds with the animals she cared for so deeply.

Above all, Marsha was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, and a compassionate soul who left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her legacy of love, patience, and kindness will live on through her family and all whose lives she touched.

An informal, come and go Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2026 at The Wildflower Country Event Center in San Marcos, Texas from 3:00pm-6:00pm.
