Irene Balderrama Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Castle Ridge Mortuary - West Military Dr. on Feb. 23, 2026.
Irene Balderrama, a beacon of kindness and generosity, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on September 3, 1943, to the late Hilario and Susie Rios, Irene's life was a testament to her faith-filled spirit and her unwavering commitment to her loved ones.

For over 54 years, Irene shared a loving marriage with her devoted husband, Amando A. Balderrama. Together, they built a family rooted in Christian values and unconditional love. Irene's legacy includes her son, Adrian Balderrama, and his wife Monica, and her daughter, Vivian Caldera, alongside her husband Carlos Caldera Jr. Although she was predeceased by her beloved grandchild, Aiden Balderrama, she leaves behind a joyous lineage including grandchildren Isaiah, Caleb, Gabriella, Damien, Karolyna, and Carlos Caldera III with his wife Navadia. Her great-grandchildren, Eulalia and Amari'Kai, will also cherish her memory.

Irene's life was enriched by the close bonds she shared with her siblings, Jesse Rios and his wife Gloria, MaryEsther Gonzales and her husband Miguel, and Robert Rios. Her numerous nieces and nephews will always remember their Aunt Reenie with open arms, a warm heart, and a drink to cheers.

Throughout her career, Irene was a pillar of strength and leadership at the San Antonio Telephone Federal Credit Union, now known as RiverCity Federal Credit Union. She retired as a Branch Manager after more than 30 years of dedicated service, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and a multitude of employees who benefited from her mentorship and wisdom.

Irene's Catholic faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was an active member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, where her joyful voice graced the choir, and her hands were always ready to serve those in need. Her community felt her impact through countless hours of volunteering in the church office, and her presence will be deeply missed.

Her interests painted a picture of a woman who embraced life with zest and joy. Irene's pride and joy were her grandchildren, and she could often be found in the stands of their sporting events, cheering them on with enthusiasm. Her love for travel with her husband Amando, family, and friends, took her across the globe, yet she always found a familiar face no matter what city, state, or country she visited.

Irene's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of kindness, generosity, and a faith that shone brightly in every action she took. Her laughter, her wisdom, and her unwavering support will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

As we bid farewell to Irene Balderrama, we celebrate a life well-lived and a woman well-loved. Her spirit will continue to inspire us, and her memory will be a guiding light for generations to come. We take solace in knowing that Irene is now singing with the angels, her soul at peace in eternal rest.
